Over the last year I have been exploring Lack woods near Truro in Cornwall. I have been visiting on a weekly basis and it’s true what they say you have to keep going back to the same place. I love woodland photography and the challenge of finding compositions and something new. Light is everything and the ever changing conditions means the same scene changes drastically on each visit. After a recent Truro camera club visit my Friend David Martin captured this image of myself and I was surprised how small I seem against the majesty of these trees.
Street Photography Workshop with Mark Fearnley
Myself and a few friends recently went on a great workshop in London with Mark Fearnley focussed on Street Photography. Although I have been keen on the genre for some time and have produced lots of work this was a real eye opener with lots of learning and opportunities to experiment with Marks guidance. I will be uploading more work on the website so people can see the results of my endeavours. Marks Website is https://markfearnley.co.uk and you can find him on instagram at https://www.instagram.com/mark.fearnley/
FELLOWSHIP OF THE RPS (FRPS)
It’s time to take the next leap and to start the process of trying to attain the “FELLOWSHIP OF THE RPS (FRPS)” After two years completing the Associate it’s time to start processing ideas and experimenting with different forms of photography. I already have multiple ideas (5) that I am testing.
This is the highest level of Distinction. It requires a body of work/project of 20/21 images of a distinguished photographic and creative standard accompanied by a Statement of Intent. Fellowship submissions are only open to Associates of the Society. I will be testing ideas through this blog so I will be asking for feedback. Watch this space.
Associate of the Royal Photographic Society (ARPS)
After two years of work I have been been approved as a Associate of the RPS (ARPS). An ARPS distinction is the second highest level in the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) with only a fellowship being higher. To achieve this you have to be project focused and put together a coherent panel of 15 images. With this a Statement Of Intent (SOI) has to be prepared describing the meaning of the panel. My panel was based on the enclosure of Zoo animals and their inherent beauty. So although they were trapped by the frames of the images they are still creature to be admired. Next steps are to consider if I will take on the work to a obtain a fellowship.
Lucky enough to win another Photo Competition!
Today I won the Photocrowd competition called "Agonies of Life" which was a lovely street image of a busker and a business man silhouetted in the subway in Truro. If you get a chance to visit the site this is the link https://www.photocrowd.com/photo-competitions/agonies-of-city-life-general-photo-contest-1183/overview/
